The Canada LMIA program, also known as the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) program, is a process that employers in Canada must go through in order to hire foreign workers. The purpose of the LMIA program is to ensure that the hiring of foreign workers will not have a negative impact on the Canadian labour market.
To get an LMIA, an employer must demonstrate that they were unable to find a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to fill the position they are offering to a foreign worker. The employer must also show that the foreign worker will be paid wages and working conditions that are similar to what a Canadian worker would receive for the same job.
If an LMIA is approved, the foreign worker can then apply for a work permit to come to Canada.
